Subject

Dewey Hooper, Elon College Class of 1940

Description

This is a photograph of a metal identification tag recovered from Dewey Hooper's B-24 Liberator, which crashed in Australia in December 1942. The tag is oval-shaped and was on a device produced by the Stromberg Company, a manufacturer of electrical and mechanical components. The tag reads, "Stromberg Parts List No.", followed by the number, "A-30138-F". The next field down is a serial number, "49326". At each end of the tag are small holes for screws that held the tag in place. On one end the number "P-70000" is etched next to one of the screw holes. The tag is twisted and scarred, and a portion is missing along the bottom.
