Description

This is a photograph of the American delegation to a dedication ceremony of a memorial to the crew of the Texas Terror, a B-24 Bomber which crashed into Mt. Straloch on Hichinbrook Island, Queensland, Australia, on December 18, 1942, killing all twelve crew and passengers aboard. On April 25, 1999, the memorial was dedicated in the nearby town of Ingham, Queensland (placed there due to the inaccessible nature of the crash site). Pictured in front of the memorial are, from left to right: Capt. Honchul, USAF, HQ 5th AF/PA; Col. Sargeant, USAF, 8th Fighter Wing Commander; C.W. Hooper, co-pilot Dewey Hooper's brother; Brig. Gen. Stevenson, USAF, Deputy 5th AF Commander; Carl H. Silber, Jr.; son of passenger Capt. Carl Silber; Diane Jackson; Tom Hasebe, Gen. Stevenson's Special Assistant; Lt. Col. Jackson, USAF, US Embassy; Lt. Col. Robinson, USAF, US Embassy; & Carl Wall (C.W. Hooper's nephew).
