Description

This is a photograph of two pieces of metal from Dewey Hooper's B-24 Liberator Bomber, which crashed in Australia in December 1942. Both are metal tags that identified parts of the aircraft's bomb rack. The inscription on the grey tag reads, "US Army Air Corps Bomb Rack" Several fields below are now unreadable, but the last field says, "Consolidated Aircraft Corp". This tag has twisted edges and is dented. The inscription on the black tag reads, "Release Bomb Rack Type A-2 (24 Volts D.C.)", indicating this tag was on a powered mechanism. The tag also includes several different identification numbers. At the bottom are the words, "Position Right Hand The Crosley Corp." This tag is heavily scratched on its surface.
